Both photos and original art are used to illustrate this pleasantly sunny, simple book in the new Introducing Habitats series. The text--four or five words to a sentence; four or five lines in large type to a page--is both easy to read and easy to understand. The authors first explain the term habitat. Then, in broad, topical chapters such as "Getting Energy," and "Babies in Spring," they examine a habitat that's familiar to many kids--their own backyards--describing a few of the animals and plants that may live there and how they function within it. A scattering of questions ("Which animals live in your yard?") invites children to participate directly in the learning process. Wonderful book

I love this book! Our local library doesn't have much, if anything, about backyard habitats for kids. I loved the pictures and the kids and I had fun using it to see if we could see those birds in our yard. It has been a wonderful supplement to our science curriculum this year!

There is a miss print in the book. There is a arrow to a sunflower with the text " living thing" and right beside that is a rose with a arrow and the words "non-living thing" . Cute book though.
