Sarah Thiessen is a private practitioner, speaker and the founder of the Splankna Therapy Institute in Denver, Colorado. She is a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist and a Licensed Professional Counselor. She holds undergraduate and graduate degrees from Abilene Christian University and is the author of the innovative book, Splankna. She lives in Colorado with her husband Jon and three children.

Heather Hughes is a private practitioner, speaker and Certified Life Coach. She is a developer and assistant director of the Splankna Therapy Institute. She lives in Colorado with her husband Joe and four children.

The pictures in the book are beautiful and the story is wonderful of Ed's journey

My 16 year old daugher is one of Ed's biggest fans for years. She was so excited to receive this book I can't even begin to tell you. The pictures in the book are beautiful and the story is wonderful of Ed's journey. Obviously, anyone interested in buying this book loves Ed Sheeran! Great present for anyone of loves Ed!

About the Author
Chuck Williams is Dean of the College of Business at Butler University. Dr. Williams previously served as Dean of the Eberhardt School of Business at the University of the Pacific and as Associate Professor of Management at the M.J. Neeley School of Business at Texas Christian University. Dr. Williams has also served as Associate Dean and Chair of Management and has taught at Michigan State University and Oklahoma State University. Dr. Williams received his B.A. in psychology from Valparaiso University. He specialized in organizational behavior, human resources, and strategic management while earning his M.B.A and Ph.D. in business administration from Michigan State University. His research interests include employee recruitment and turnover, performance appraisal, and employee training and goal setting. Dr. Williams has published research in the JOURNAL OF APPLIED PSYCHOLOGY, the ACADEMY OF MANAGEMENT, HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT REVIEW, PERSONNEL PSYCHOLOGY, and the ORGANIZATIONAL RESEARCH METHODS JOURNAL. He was a member of the JOURNAL OF MANAGEMENT's editorial board and currently serves as a reviewer for numerous other academic journals. This is an excellent book on animal breeding. However, contrary to a previous review, it does not have any pictures at all! It has excellent charts and tables that illustrate points in the book. I just wanted to clarify this point.

A fun story!

This is a delightful and entertaining story about a bear trying to get rid of his shadow. My kids thoroughly enjoy it and we can all appreciate the humor in the premise - a great book for sparking and sharing joy with your kids.

A Bear's shadow is a nice story

There are about twenty-eight pages with each one being of white background with various square sizes of the illustrations in blue, green, brown and white colors. This makes the picture a separate box and the text below or next to the picture.

The bear is a brown bear that starts the day by fishing at the pond. Bear notices a big fish while hooking the worm onto his pole and wants to catch it. The bear stood up to toss his pole in the water but his shadow scared the fish away. The bear tried to tell his shadow to go away but it stayed there. Since the shadow would not leave the Bear decided he would run until the shadow disappeared. The Bear ran around the pond, through a field of flowers and then jumped over a brook ending up hiding behind a tree.

Next the Bear went home to get a hammer and nails to nail his shadow to the ground but the shadow did not go down. Then the Bear got out a shovel thinking he could bury the shadow in a deep hole. By the time Bear finished filling the hole up it was afternoon with the sun high in the sky but no shadow to be found. After all this hard work Bear went inside to take a nap awakening after the sun had set. Bear went to open his front door and there was his shadow on the floor so he quickly shut the door going outside and hoping to leave his shadow inside.

It turned out his shadow was too quick because it was outside the door with the Bear. Now the Bear decided that if the shadow would let him catch a fish he would let the shadow get one too and when he nodded his head so did his shadow. Back to the pond the Bear goes again but this time the sun is in another part of the sky so the shadow was able to steer clear of scaring the fish. This time the shadow was behind the Bear while in the morning the shadow was in front of him closer to the pond. At the end of the day the Bear and his shadow caught their big fish.

My six-year old likes to play around with shadows on the wall in the house plus loves bears so this is a book that gets read quite often. I would suggest a toddler to first grader would benefit from the silliness of the bear and his shadow.

Color photos very helpful

All of the new material and especially the color photos make this book a must-have for a fire investigator. So much detail is missed with black and white photos, comparing this edition with earlier versions is like night and day.

Good info.

As I write a review for yet another NFPA guide, they will all be the same. As I stated a NFPA guide is not a book, it's a guide. NFPA guides are written to look up information, unlike a book in which you read by chapter. Now that said, you can read it like a book, it just takes awhile to read. If you are going to sit for any length of time to read it, have strong coffee!
